(SSG Chris Swanson Military Camper Fund)

As a way to assist parents who are actively serving our country or have made the ultimate sacrifice in service (wounded warrior or fallen soldier), River Valley Ranch has established the “SSG Chris Swanson Military Camper Fund” in partnership with our Foundation to help send their children to camp through full or partial scholarships

SSG Christopher W. Swanson was killed while serving his third tour in Iraq on 07/22/2006. Chris believed in his mission and loved leading his men. Chris was active in the Youth Department and participated in mission work in the inner cities all over the United States. He loved to assist in programs that gave back to the community and help those that were less fortunate. In keeping with this spirit of assisting those he cared about, River Valley Ranch has established a “NEW” fund to assist military children in honor of Chris. In 2007 the family formed the SSG Christopher W. Swanson Veteran Support Charities, Inc., a 501 (c-3) tax exempt organization. We are so blessed and excited about this program and partnership with River Valley Ranch (WWW.RIVERVALLEYRANCH.COM ). I am so thankful that the Bisset family approached us with this opportunity. Since 1952 this family under the leadership of Peter and John, has had the vision and compassion to provide exciting and life changing camp experiences to thousands of young people from all over America. We as a family know firsthand, because as young men our two sons attended camps here at RVR. The SSG Chris Swanson Support Charities for Veterans and their Families will partner with RVR in this new “Military Camper Fund”. The fund will assist the children of military families with financial assistance so that young people will have an opportunity to attend a structured weeklong camp. It will be called the “SSG Chris Swanson Military Camper Fund”. We will be working closely with River Valley Ranch to fulfill as many scholarships as we are able.

ELIGIBILITY: The SSG Chris Swanson Military Camper Fund is designed for children whose parents are ONE of the following:

  1. Are a fallen soldier
  2. Have been wounded in battle
  3. Are active military

Although to this day, this has brought us to our knees, It’s because of Gods promise and grace that we are able to continue to move forward and give back to those we believe in, our service members and their families. They are truly some of the angels among us. I believe in our children and the children of those who mean the most to us as a family and country. They deserve this opportunity. Whenever Chris was deployed, when asked what he needed he would say “nothing”, but would always ask for items for the children in Iraq. Through our foundation we will use a portion of donations to help fund this new program. This is all in keeping with part of our foundations mission statement “To award scholarships to church youth ministries and high school students who demonstrate leadership values that Christopher believed in such as Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage by leading projects that give back to the community and to assist by providing financial support to other organizations that provides support to our service members”.

Please partner with us on bringing smiles to these young people by making a tax deductible contribution to the SSG. Swanson Veteran Charities and mailed to P.O. Box 82, Friendship, MD 20758 or by visiting PAY PAL through the Foundations web site.

1st Annual Charity Golf Event - Special Thanks

On behalf of the SSG Swanson support Charities for Veterans and their Families, I would like to thank all who played in our first of a yearly golf tournament. We are honored and humbled to be associated with such caring individuals who believe in our Nations Veterans.

To the many businesses that have contributed financially and donated items, we thank for your continuing support. When we started this new journey in our lives we sought the advice of countless individuals and most importantly those who have done so much for us as a Nation, our Veterans. In a letter from the President of the United States of America, he recognized our Foundation and stated “That our Nations Veterans deserve our very best”. By your continuing support and your presence at our events, I know you all echo this statement!

A special thanks to Marlton Golf Club for hosting the event and to all of the staff that worked tirelessly to ensure that the tournament would be a success. I am equally proud of Gary A. Padgett. He has worked tirelessly on this event and it’s because of his compassion and vision for the foundation that this event was a success.

To the Redskins Hoggettes, thank you for all you have done for our foundation! You have been involved in other events alongside of us. You bring so much joy to our region and your commitment to give back to charities is truly a blessing.

To our family and friends thank you for volunteering your time and talent to ensure that things went smoothly during this event. Upon paying all expenses associated with the tournament we were able to raise over $10,000.00 from our corporate sponsors, sponsoring individual holes, 78 golfers, silent auction and 50/50 raffle. Below is a list of our sponsors.
